Following the first international partners‘ meeting, project partners officially launched the project in half-day events, using the opportunity to engage school community (pupils, parents, teachers, staff) other citizens, local municipalities’ representatives, local CSOs, youth organisations, media and representatives of other relevant public and private institutions to participate actively in the project and become part of the local consortiums
Launching Event in Portugal
The launching event in Portugal took place on Friday, 15th January 2016 at Escola Secundária de Pinheiro e Rosa in Faro. It lasted 2,5hours and approximately 95 participants were present, mostly secondary school students and teachers. Among participants were also the school’s principal, Francisco Soares, school’s general council president, Ana Margarida Silva and a representative form the Ministry of Education regional office, Teresa Laranjo. ECOS team introduced the project and facilitated the event.
The launching started with welcoming the participants, presentations of the team and objectives of the session, followed by short speeches by the school’s principal and by the President of ECOS. To increase engagement of participants a member of our pedagogical team facilitated several activities and energizers relevant to the topic of participation and active citizenship. The program continued with a presentation of the project. After a short break “The Youth Parliament” took the floor and presented the results of the current elections.
The launching was positively evaluated by all the participants and they expressed their interest in future steps of the project.

Launching Event in Slovenia
The launching event in Slovenia took place on Thursday 28th January 2016, and lasted approximately 4 hours. Overall 38 people attended the event, of which a half were representatives of different secondary schools from the region. The program of the event had two presentations implemented by researchers from the University of Primorska Faculty of education (dr. Sonja Rutar: Participation in schools: starting points and challenges) and the Institute for youth policies (Rozana Mužica: Models of youth participation applicable to school communities).
An important part of the event was the workshop “Reflexion on participation of pupils and students in schools” during which participants managed to launch some criteria for the ladder of participation.
The program was very interactive; consequently, the participants were very active and also willing to cooperate in the local consortium.

Launching Event in Poland
In Poland, the project was launched with an event that took place in Rybnik, Chwałowice Cultural House, on 12th of February 2016, and was attended by around 35 persons, including students, teachers, youth workers and a representative of the Polish Public Education Institution (WOM – Wojewódzki Ośrodek Medodyczny).
The launching event had 2 parts: presentations of the project and of some good practices in terms of youth partcipation in Poland and Europe; and workshops for students and teachers to discuss about their dreamed democratioc school and present a visual representation of the disscussion results.
The main recommendations that came out from the workshops were: schools should increase transparency in information, and include the possibility for students to decide not only about activities (what and how is happening in the school) but also about budget and investments in the school.
